Big Kid Bed!

Do you remember moving into your "big" bed? For me, I remember having a twin bed at around 3 years old. My parents got me a 4 poster bed that had a canopy. I loved that bed. I felt like a princess. We have moved the twins into "big kid" beds. And by big kid I mean, we converted their cribs into toddler beds.

Verona kept climbing out of her crib and usually visiting Trent or leaving their room.  Trent would swing one leg up on his crib, but would chicken out and not climb down.  We transitioned Verona first. She LOVES her bed! She took to having a pillow pretty easily. Andy's Aunt Terri found these travel pillows and she made little pillow cases for them from material she had from Eric Carle's "The Very Hungry Caterpillar".  I thought I had a pic of her bed after I put the sheets and comforter on for the first time, but I guess now.

Instead here are some pictures of her "sleeping" and then really sleeping.

These are fuzzy because it was late at night and with my phone.  She used to
get out of bed and we would find her in these strange spots.

Trent chickening out.

Trent's big boy bed. The lovey you see is Ribbit. He doesn't go ANYWHERE with out Ribbit.

Poor Trenton. Verona would always climb into his crib once she got her big girl bed.  We figured once he got his big boy bed it would stop.  It's worse.  She shoved him down to the bottom of his bed and takes over. We keep telling him to take control of his own bed, but he sits there and gives her the side eye instead.

We are s-l-o-w-l-y transitioning their room from a nursery to an older kid room.  I have taken down their baby quilts, the dust ruffles off their bed, and some of the nursery cross stitch pictures, but only because they can throw their animals and hit the pictures.  We aren't doing a "theme", mainly because they are b/g and share a room. We are just doing complimentary colors.  I found this lady on Etsy who made their name out of stiff fabric letters and the colors each match their comforters.  I never had a theme bedroom or theme characters. Maybe when they are older they can pick something out.  For now they love their room and enjoy hiding in the closet, pulling out every book and having us read as many as we can before bed, jumping on their beds, and brushing and combing our hair. We did get them to still still for 5 seconds last week.

I love summer pajamas! See how
Ribbit always seems to make it into every shot?

Singleton for a day(s)

Singleton is a term that is used quite a lot in the multiple's world.  It refers to a singular born child. Used like this "Jane had twins first, then she had a singleton". We have no idea what having a singleton is like.  But we do now, and boy it is easy!!

This past weekend Andy and I had the opportunity to each take a kid and spend the weekend alone with that kid.  Verona and I had a girl's weekend up in Yakima, staying at my parent's house, for my soon to be SIL Stacy's Bridal Shower. Trenton and Andy spent the weekend with Andy's mom and met up with his brother Matt for a weekend of fun.  Only having to deal with one kid is so nice.  But that honeymoon phase ends and most couples go for kid #2 and then some more if they are so inclined.  The twins have only ever been separated once before, March 17-22, 2011.  This was when Trenton was in the hospital for his surgery and recovery of Pyloric Stenosis.  And the kids were only 2 months old.  Right now, they are never more than 2 hours apart from each other.  We take turns taking them individually for errands and things.  But apart for 48 hours? This would be something new!

This is them early AM on Friday the 3rd on the way to the airport.

Right before we headed through to security. We were trying to get them to say bye to each other. V wasn't feeling it.

So we took Southwest for the first time ever. Thanks to Stacy, she had a voucher and gave it to me so we could fly up! Stacy is the best!!  V wanted the middle, but I moved her to the window. After setting her up with some headphones and "her phone" (my old iphone) she was happy.  I got her this Doddle Pro as a surprise and she LOVED IT! I spend 20 minutes tracing her hand(s) and she couldn't get enough of it. The man sitting next to me told he is a twin. No matter where I go I meet someone who is a twin and I always ask for advice.  He said to let them be independent of each other. I think we started with this trip already!

After we landed my dad and brother picked us up and took us Teriyaki. I LOVE Teriyaki.  When in Yakima, I love to go to New York Teriyaki in Union Gap.  Chico JUST got a Teriyaki place. I will be all over that quickly! The husband/wife owners of this place adored V.  She even got a hug!

We got in the car and headed over the pass to Yakima. V and Adam quickly passed out.

Friday night we hung out at my parents' house and friends of mine came over and we talked until almost midnight(!!!). I had such a good time catching up with them. The next day mom and I and V went over to Adam and Stacy's new house they bought. V was able to pet her first cat, Julio. She loved him.  We see cats quite often, but they aren't in a setting to be petted. Julio was such a good cat.
Saturday was the shower and unfortch I have no pictures. I was using my mom's camera that day to take pictures, but it was wonderful. My Aunt Judi did a great job and my cousins Sarah was also a huge contributor.  It was so nice to celebrate Stacy and spend the day with her.  That night for dinner we headed to Red Robin. There is no Red Robin in Chico. I love Red Robin so this was a real treat. We had to wait outside because we were part of a large group (18) and it was PROM! HAHAH, it was so fun to be a "judge" and see all the dresses. I will say this: I am glad I went to prom in the 90's.  We were a bit more conservative and not so flashy.

V sure does love her Uncle Adam.
On the flight home.

On Sunday we got up early and headed over to Seattle to fly out.  We had a great weekend and will be back in June for Adam and Stacy's wedding!

Trenton and Andy had a busy weekend as well. After they dropped us off they headed off for fun! It started with a haircut for Trent.  We haven't cut the top of his hair since birth.  As you can see he has a widow's peak just like Andy.  His hair for the longest time only grew in the back and not the front. So we called him Friar Trent. Poor kid.  His hair finally started to grow and it was covering his ears.  I took him once to JC Penny before Thanksgiving, but it was a nightmare. This place was more his style.

After the haircut, Andy had a Google Alert about the Grand Re-Opening of the Disney Store in the mall. Of course they went to that and Trent came away with a new Buzz Lightyear as well as some utensils for he and V.  Once they had their fill of Disney, Andy took him to Chuck E. Cheese's.  I would not be brave enough to go there even on my own. Trent is a runner and can't be held down for long so this place would be perfect to burn off some excess energy.

After Chuck E. Cheese's they headed to Andy's mom's school where she teaches Kindergarten. Trent had her classroom and all the stuff inside to himself. He as in heaven.  Room to roam and play, crayons, scissors, music to dance to and not a sister to bug him. Lucky Kid!

On Saturday, Andy, Nana and Trent headed to Oakland to pick up Matt for a trip to the Oakland Zoo. They had a blast. Trent ran wild and showed Nana and Uncle Matt how he has a boundless amount of energy. For 5 hours they chased after Trent and occasionally saw some animals.

It was very warm that day so Trent did stop to drinks some water and have Andy push him around until he got his energy back so he could keep running.

And when mom isn't around, why not have Icee's for lunch.  I was lucky enough to do laundry and went through quite a bit of Spray n' Wash after this day at the zoo.

On Sunday when Andy and Trent came to the airport to pick us up at the airport we each steered the kids to face each other to see their reactions. It was adorable. They kept saying hi to each other.  I had to take V in to change her and Trent started crying for us. That night they played together so well and V as usual climbed into his bed to cuddle. We had a wonderful weekend and look forward to spending time alone with the other kid next time. I am sure Trenton and I and Andy and V will all have a great time.
